Berkhamsted man asks if someone can save his wife's life

When: 4.30-8.30pm Monday Dec 12
Where: Kings Arms, Berkhamsted
The husband of a Berkhamsted resident diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma is calling on local people to join the Anthony Nolan stem cell register as potential lifesavers.
Paul Jenkins' wife Gilly was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a form of blood cancer, in September 2010, and although she initially responded well to chemotherapy, the cancer returned in August this year. Doctors have told her that a stem cell transplant is her only hope of survival. Gilly and husband Paul are now working urgently with blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan to find her a match from their register of potential donors.
A special recruitment event will be held on Monday 12 December at the Kings Arms in Berkhamsted. The event will be run by Anthony Nolan, which is urging people to come forward to find out if they could be a match for someone like Gilly. The charity particularly needs young men aged 18 to 30 to come forward, as they make the best donors but account for just 12% of the register.
Paul said: I want everyone to join the Anthony Nolan register. To sign up, all you need to do is give a small saliva sample – it's that simple. For people like Gilly, a stem cell transplant is their last hope, but by joining the register, you could give them that hope."

From 4.30-8.30pm.
They need all sorts of volunteers - they are just particularly short of men in that age bracket. The more the merrier is definitely the order of the day.
