Parking returns to normal

Guess what, parking spaces are back to the usual lack of and the 'no through road' sign in Mill Street is being ignored by cars driving from Castle Street end, going round the Water Lane carpark only to chuck some things onto the pavement as they make their way back to Castle Street. A large lorry is blocking Chesham Road (yellow line? why bother?) causing tailbacks into the High Street.
Yep, situation normal - even the men in white coats can't find anywhere to park in their search.

Comments from DBC when asked about Parking issues in the light of the Core Strategy proposals for an additional 1180 dwellings (actually 565 have already been built) - including 180 on the Egerton Rothesay site by 2014/15
1).....There is an existing Local Plan proposal for a replacement (Tesco) foodstore at Water Lane / High Street which if implemented in the future would modestly improve shopping and parking in the town centre.
------------------
2)Parking relief now seems to be dependent on Tesco! – when can we expect this? {this does not seem a sustainable proposal to solve the huge parking issues in the town!}
The Tesco site development is not regarded as a panacea for parking problems in the town centre, but would make a modest contribution to improving the situation along with other measures to be identified in the Berkhamsted Urban Transport Plan. In reality, the opportunities for new parking are severally constrained by the built up nature of the town centre, the availability of sites and the quality of its historic core. At present there are no firm plans to develop the Tesco site, the situation not being helped by the current economic downturn.
-----------------------------------------------------------
(so there is no solution to the parking problem -but we'll continue to build on the outskirts of the town where most will have no option but to drive to the schools/town centre , and as we'll do all this building with no additional employment opportunities - we'll add to the commuters who wont pay the exorbitant charges at the station so clog up the surrounding roads even more)
..and then there's GUI ....
