Young Chef winner Nicola Brownless meets Raymond Blanc in Berkhamsted
The famous chef visited Berkhamsted's St Francis Hospice shop and met fundraisers there, who told him about about their own award-winning Chef Chris Took and how important his work is at the hospice, where he provides much-needed healthy nutrition.
Along the High Street, Raymond paid a visit to Berkhamsted School to see the new food technology building.
Then the presenter of BBC 2's The Hungry Frenchman got to do a bit of food tasting, as year 9 students, aged 13 and 14, cooked cherry clafouti, which Raymond tasted and judged. He also met with some French students who are shortly off to university. Raymond stayed for lunch with the staff and children in the main hall.
Raymond met more of Berkhamsted's young people at the Swan Youth Centre. He took along some of the cherry clafouti baked at Berkhamsted School, for them to enjoy.
Raymond also met an aspiring young chef at the Brasserie in the High Street. Nicola Brownless, 15, who recently won the Rotary Club Young Chef contest, who went away with a signed copy of one of his books.
At the end of the day he was spotted wheeling his case back to Berkhamsted Station - it's not always a glamorous life!

ReportWe were lucky enough to sample the delights of Brasserie Blanc last night for a meal. It was very good indeed, the food was well presented and tasted divine the desserts were excellent and found it hard to choose........ :-)
Only complaint was that the wine prices were on the high side ....
Were looking forward to going back again!!
