Have you found the Upstairs Gallery in Berkhamsted yet? If you're looking for it, it's above the Post Office - walk in the post office door and head up the stairs.

For another week the exhibition is The Power of the Monochromatic Photograph and the Empty Vessel, which features work by local artists from the Chilterns and surrounding counties, many of them from Berkhamsted itself.

The exhibition examines the quiet but powerful intensity that photographic images, free from multiple colour, can exude and marries this with the quiet intensity of the three dimensional empty vessel.  There's a gallery of photos here but you really need to see the work in real life to truly appreciate it.

The exhibition will be open for visitors on Wednesdays-Saturdays, 10am-4pm until March 17 2012.

The Upstairs Gallery, in Berkhamsted, is supported by a charitable trust and aims to provide a showcase for local artists at an affordable cost. It shows themed exhibitions, one or two-man shows, as well as mixed art and craft sales and work by local community and education groups.

They're also very friendly in there – so next time you're in Berkhamsted, pop in and take a look!
