I know earlier this year I spotted men from DBC looking at the other one and suspected they might be thinking of chopping the odd limb as it seems a little unbalanced.
Nothing happened until a few weeks ago when I saw the other one had been chopped down.
They work in a strange way, they did a similar thing in Briar Way. The excuse was it was 'necessary and legal' (strange phrase if you think about it). I asked the new man in charge who told me it was rotten and had to be felled. The trunk looks in fine condition. Our local councillors seem not to care in the slightest, but then, I didn't vote for them so you can't blame me. Even the Citizens Association appear to only worry about trees in the town centre or in the Castle area and they used to be the bastion of tree welfare in the town but I'm no longer a member of that lot either.
Hi, thanks for the information. I have contacted DBC to see if they can explain. I don't recall this tree having any health problems ( although I am not a tree surgeon ). I hope they are not stealthily making room for something else !

If this is true, it's quite a sad approach. Rather than maintain the tree by careful lopping of ailing branches. I'll report back when the DBC get back to me. thanks.
