Hi there, new member to the site here.

We are hoping to move to Berkhamsted in the near future. We have two children aged 4 and 7 and are unfamiliar with the three tier state education system here.

It appears that our children would be at different schools once our oldest reaches the age of 9 and wondered how other parents cope with dropping off and collecting at two sites.

Also, when the children reach secondary school age, do they travel to Tring or Hemel Hempsted or do they use a school in Berkhamsted?

Hope you can advise, many thanks!

Seems likely that middle schools r about to go and we will revert back to the 2 tier system because of the shortage of primary school places. Serious problem at the mo. Currently tho kids go to middle school at 9 then to Ashlyns comp at 13. Or middle school at 9 then to one of the comps in neighbouring towns or grammar schools I'm Bucks. There is also Berkhamsted collegiate public school in the town.

    Thanks for your speedy replies.

Does anyone know when the system will change the the two tier system? I will contact the local EA to see if there is a time table for this over the coming weeks.

We have just had a lovely child free weekend here and the school situation was the only sticking point : )

Hopefully may become a regular on here in the not too distant future. Thanks again for you advice.

Its not definite - supposed to be an announcement in September. They are looking at options because of the shortage of primary places - and most people seem to think that turning the 2 middle schools into additional primary schools is the likely option, but we could all be wrong I guess it will depend on cost.

In the interim they are proposing additional class rooms at Greenway and Westfield primary schools. Check out http://tinyurl.com/3zp35nm for some info on the current situation.
Have you got places for your kids in September?
