And your solution to fitting more metal boxes on wheels into the preferred limited space is?
You will be surprised to know I had nuffin to do with it - however I sympathise with the Council in trying to extract the public out of their little boxes.
Last week I was walking along Mill Street, and the usual vehicles were crawling along getting ready to stop and let their little darlings out. I spotted one lady take her hands of the steering wheel, put them in the air as she stopped behind the vehicle in front who needed to let the offspring out. Words were mouthed - then she pulled round the 'errant' vehicle and promptly stopped two vehicles in front and let her offspring out.
Human nature never ceases to surprise me!
I haven't seen the proposals (I will try to have a look), but I expect it will not allow the amount of on-street parking as residents want (not need!!). You really wouldn't like to know what I would suggest, but it involves doing nothing apart from enforcing the law as it stands. Very cheap (the Town Council would love that) - the public would hate it (the Town Council would hate that), the police really don't want to get involved (policing by consent), traffic wardens would need police protection and we are just left with your excellent solution.
Pray pass it on to the Council so they can pass the buck to you.
Are you sure it's part of the Town Council residents parking scheme?
I know Cllr Cowie got involved in a complaint about parking in George Street a while ago - got his story into the Gazette I understand - or it might be County who are making waves (ask Cllr Ian Reay, your County Councillor) or maybe the Borough (ask Cllr Laws who knows about these things) or maybe the Chamber of Commerce, Cllr Cowie is the Chairman, would like to make an impression.
In any case, you obviously have the solution so do tell everyone.
Ignoring your bizarre (as usual) rant...
I've nothing against a Residents Parking scheme being part of George Street, as long as they keep the parking spaces as they are.
But removing half of the current spaces and presumably making half the road into double yellows? How is that even remotely sensible? There would only be parking spaces for half of the residents, if that.
It's definitely part of the Town Council plan, although seemingly only recently added. The plans have been sent from the Town Council. I'd post a picture of the proposed plan if there was a way of uploading them to discussions.
And please stop being so horribly presumptious and putting words in my mouth - it makes you seem a very unpleasant man.
"it makes you seem a very unpleasant man."
Got me in one.
Still not exactly clear if you think there is a problem that needs resolving; if you have a solution if there is a problem or where exactly the parking spaces are already.
Marked parking bays are the only ones that allow the parking of motor vehicles on the public highway and those are something I've yet to see in George Street or many other roads in the town. A half hearted effort was made in Charles Street and Kings Road, but naturally the drivers managed to totally ignore the Counties efforts to bring order out of chaos.
Bye bye
I'm afraid we were misled. Last nights F&P meeting provided the reason to change from 'non-runner' to 'consider'. For more information go to http://tinyurl.com/7b2sqvr and follow the link to 2012.
