Whilst taking the cat out for our morning run through the town, I stumbled across a number of unreasonably coloured cars parked along many of our local streets.

Some of them were parked less than 2 yards (ah, imperial measures!) away from people's front doors, making it almost impossible for us to run along the local footways side-by-side.

But don't get me started about that...

As all those different colours seem to clash horrendously, I propose a new parking system for Berkhamsted where certain streets are reserved for certain coloured cars. For instance Ravens Lane should be reserved for Red cars, Swing Gate Lane for Silver, and Hilltop Road for Horange.

Arthur (my Persian blue) remarked at how he preferred the yellow ones as their bonnets were more comfortable to sleep on.

But then, he's a cat, and sometimes he's not very sensible. However, it’s lucky that we live on a street beginning with a Y. I won’t name it, as you’ll all be banging on my door for every day advice.

As a local resident since 1872, I feel that I can speak for everybody else and say that we’d be more than willing to pay a weekly rate for such a scheme, as it would clearly solve Berkhamsted’s parking problems

I shall bring the idea up at the next Borough Council meeting.

Incidentally, I notice that there are now only 67 fish remaining in the canal by the train station, where there were 73. Was this caused by the recent “travelling people” and their “fun” fair?

I shall be asking for volunteers to post leaflets about this horrendous crime just as soon as I work why Arthur is off his food. It’s as if he’s eaten elsewhere…
