You all know I must be making this up, but it might happen.

Taking the dog out for the morning sniff around, we spotted several piles of the sort of stuff that dogs leave behind close to the entrance to a recreational area. As they were not there yesterday, I suspect that due to the school holidays, the off spring were told to take the dog for a walk – so they did.
A bit further on a nice '57' reg BMW carefully drove along the footway (technical term for pavement) as the road actually is down a steep slope and the owner has to drive along the footway to make sure his vehicle is parked outside his property (which isn't actually near the road and never was).
As the school is on a summer break, new vehicles are appearing on the pavement and along the roadside to replace the usual ones.
A Borough Council van is 'parked' on the green where Provident Place used to be (that will give commuters ideas!!)
The Ravens Lane canal basin is empty due to a careless boat owner leaving the 'rising sun' lock partly open, this has meant the level between Ravens Lane and Canal Fields has dropped another 2 inches since yesterday.
A stroll through the Rectory Lane cemetery finds a cycle left leaning against a headstone. Further up, the remains of someones' sandwiches lay scattered over a grave complete with bag to take it away.

The dog and I only went for a quick sniff and it really does prove we have no pride in our town. Suggestions on what to do and you never know, if I stood for election next year, something might happen. If you joined me, it might happen easier.

On the other hand, if I had a passport, I could just leave you all to it!

How about a sense of perspective, Norm?

Severe flooding in Pakistan has left over three million people in need of urgent help including one and a half million children. The situation is extremely challenging. Access to many areas have been cut off by the rising waters and houses, schools, roads and vital supplies have been washed away.

We could have a long argument over this one.
All I will say is that by chance, I was born less than 5 miles from where I'm sitting at this moment.
From where I'm sitting, I don't often see these countries making much effort to help themselves. They have had longer than us as the middle east is supposed to be the cradle of civilisation. What happened? They chucked us out after we tried to drag the country into the 18th century as they wanted to rule themselves - then ask for aid. The infrastructure we left was better than we have now.

Having upset many, I will now shut up!!

    In reply to N.Cutting.

Are you some sort of wind up? What on earth has a natural disaster have to do with your flippant comment on the middle east and its civilisation? Where is the same argument for Japan? One of the most advanced countries in the world. As for a long argument I dont think you have a leg to stand on.

I do realise that it seems improbable, but in August 2010 I did not foresee the events that happened in Japan earlier this year (2011).
I promise to be more careful in the future

I think the point is that, at the risk of sounding like someone from Royston Vasey, this is a local page for local people - about our locality... Therefore the issues being discussed are surely going to be about what is happening in Berkhamsted, as horrific as natural disasters around the world obviously are, this isnt' really the forum where they are going to be discussed.
