If you resolved to get fit this year, but somehow haven't got round to it, then never fear, there are plenty of places in Berkhamsted where you can get started on your quest for a fitter and lighter you!

Fitness First in Berkhamsted High Street is encouraging its existing members to bring along a friend for free on Fitness Fridays, plus it has introduced a new 100 Workout for you to try. The fitness team at Berkhamsted Fitness First will hold a number of gym floor workouts each Friday to take members and friends through one of the four 100 Workout sessions.

The 100 workouts will feature on handy cards that you can take around the gym with you - so you won't have to remember anything! If you don't have a friend who is already a member at Fitness First, you can download a free guest pass at www.fitnessfirst.co.uk. For a peek at the facilities on offer, check out the photo gallery. Memberships start from less than £20 a month,

At the Lifestyle Centre at Ashridge Business School, you have the benefits of the beautiful surroundings of the Ashridge Estate – perfect if you enjoy running or walking outside. There's also a Trim Trail in the grounds as well as squash and tennis courts and an indoor heated pool, which also enjoys views out over the gardens. Plus, of course, there's a gym, where you can have a one to one session with a trainer, who will devise an eight-week programme for you.

Sportspace Berkhamsted at Lagley Meadow, Douglas Gardens, is the second largest sports centre in the borough of Dacorum, and offers a large range of activities, including a new all-weather pitch. The centre is run by Dacorum Sports Trust, which works with Dacorum Borough Council, which actually owns the building. The air-conditioned gym features StarTrac equipment, free weights and cardio machines with their own screens so you can choose your own music or TV channel to watch while you train. There are plenty of classes taught in the studio from Legs Bums and Tums to Zumba and Spinning, as well as a swimming pool, racket sports facilities and so on.

There are a range of membership levels, depending on what facilities you want to use and when, as well as a pay as you go option. Call on 01442 228123 or see here for more details.

There is also a gym at Berkhamsted School. Called The Fitness Room, this is a small, friendly gym, where you will be given a 15-session programme after a gym induction and a consultation to asses your fitness levels and what you hope to achieve. A new programme is prepared after each 15 sessions to help you keep stimulated and motivated. See here for more details

If gyms are not your thing, you could always call in to the Berkhamsted Ashtanga Yoga Studio and check out their yoga and pilates classes. The studio is above Costa Coffee in the High Street, so you may well have walked by without knowing it was there. There are beginner Ashtanga Yoga courses, which run for four weeks and cost £36 starting on Thursday February 2 at 8pm and Saturday February 11 at 12noon.

SorayaYoga also offers yoga classes to both adults and children in Berkhamsted and the surrounding area. Look out for classes at Berkhamsted Town Hall and the Family Yoga classes held on Sundays at Carmenta Life in Church Lane, Berkhamsted.

Carmenta Life is also the venue for Berkhamsted's Ante Natal Yoga Group on a Monday evening. It also meets at Berkhamsted Town Hall on a Wednesday evening. These groups are run by yoga teacher Sally Craig, who can be contacted on sally@lotusgarden.org.uk or 0775 398 5155.

Berkhamsted is full of opportunities to help you get fit and lose weight, whether you enjoy going to the gym, doing sports, going to classes or yoga.
