As every pet owner knows, a much-loved dog or cat becomes as much a part of the family as any human.

So to help you keep your pets safe, Berkhamsted company Walk The Dog is running an animal first aid workshop.

The one-day course will teach you what to do in the event of your pet getting hurt or injured, and you will learn skills including bandaging and resuscitation.

Other topics covered range from poisoning, heatstroke and electrocution to fights, epilepsy and eye injuries.

Run in conjunction with Animal Aiders, the workshop takes place at Leverstock Green Village Hall between 10am and 12.30pm on Saturday, September 4.

Tickets cost £25 and include refreshments, a first aid booklet and a certificate of attendance.

To book, e-mail Hanne Grice on info@walk-the-dog.net.

What a great idea. My dog recently got a bone stuck in his mouth and I really panicked- would be good to know some basic stuff. Luckily it wasn't blocking his airways, but he still needed to be knocked out at the vets to remove it as it was really wedged in his teeth.
