Images of homes, cars, schools, businesses and people in Berkhamsted have been published on Google's Street View service.

The controversial application, which allows internet users anywhere in the world to view 360-degree photographs of a specific street or area, had previously covered only major cities in the UK.

But after the most recent update, 95 per cent of the country is now captured on the website.

It means Britain joins Spain, France, Italy and the United States, which already have nationwide coverage.

Street View images are captured by a Google car fitted with a panoramic camera on its roof. The images of Berkhamsted appear to have been taken in the autumn of 2009.

But there are concerns about privacy, such as in the case of the toddler photographed naked by Street View during a family picnic, and that burglars could use the service to pick out targets.

Residents in the village of Broughton, Buckinghamshire, last year formed a human chain to block Google vehicles from their streets.

Users can request that images of their home or car are reviewed and removed using the 'Report a problem' option on the website.

What do you think of Google Street View coming to your town?

I can understand people's concerns, but I do find this so useful for navigating/getting directions!

    This is quite selctive.
I was at a property yesterday that wasn't covered.
Just not good enough. It took me 20 minutes to find the house down a little country lane.

So it appears they only cover populated areas - I suppose I'll just have to move to avoid the unwanted/unrequired gaze of big brother.

What a golden opportunity has been lost.
Street names wrong (try finding Hazel Street) and the potholes are all out of focus

So now burglars can see the layout of your property from above and all the access' from ground level and you have no say in it at all.

You really mean you don't care?
Don't anyone say 'if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear!'.

I think its great. It doesn't bother me at all but agree children should be excluded from any photos.
