Council lorry crashes into Manor Street wall

A Dacorum Borough Council lorry has smashed into a wall on Manor Street, destroying an eight foot pillar at the entrance to Clunbury Court.
The incident happened at approximately 11.45am this morning, as two recycling lorries left the Clunbury Court development in convoy.
The second of the lorries hit the pillar, sending the column crashing to the ground.
The impact of the smash destroyed the paving stones below the column and damaged the front door of the adjacent house, which is currently inaccessible around the debris.
The fallen pillar is thought to weigh more than a tonne.
Clunbury Court residents have previously voiced concerns that cars parked on the white lines around the entrance to the development make it impossible for large vehicles to manoeuvre in and out of the gates safely.

Did the council take responsibility for this and sort it out? I drove past it yesterday and it doesn't look fixed!

ReportPeople who park in an inconsidrate way deserve to have their car removed. I nearly missed a flight once when my bus couldn't get passed a badly parked car. These people have a job to do that needs to be done within a certain time frame. Shame the driver didn't just crush the car in the way.

ReportContractors working for Clunbury Court residents had made the site of the incident safe by 4pm today and restored access to the affected house. However, the driver of the lorry did not stop after the accident, and although Dacorum Borough Council were notified by residents they have not yet returned to the scene.

ReportSpeaking as a Clunbury Court resident, I hope that this is being taken very seriously by Dacorum Borough Council. A representative should be on the scene straight away to assess the damage and check that this tenant is unhurt - this could have had a very different outcome. I wonder if the driver stopped? When I first moved to the development, bins were collected from the street - I'm not sure why this has changed.
It also doesn't help that cars park too closely to the entrance on Manor Street - this needs to be stopped and policed more rigorously - perhaps double yellows in place??
