Graham Greene Festival to bring literary luminaries to Berkhamsted

The line-up for this year's Graham Greene International Festival has been revealed.

Author Graham Greene was born in Berkhamsted
Berkhamsted will host writers, journalists, historians, authors and academics including Monica Ali, Michael Brearley OBE, Tim Butcher, Humphrey Hawksley, Jeremy Lewis and Dr Joe Spence at the 13th annual celebration of the homegrown novelist.
Highlights of the event, which will take place between September 30 and October 3, include a screening of The Ministry of Fear at The Rex Cinema, a discussion of Greene's unpublished material by Professor Francois Gallix, Brick Lane author Monica Ali talking about Greene's influence on her own writing, and a one-day creative writing workshop open to aspiring adult scribes of all ages.
Tickets are available now for all events. Under-21s can attend the festival free of charge.
Greene was born in Berkhamsted in 1904. His father was headmaster of Berkhamsted School and Greene was a pupil, but was bullied and suffered from severe depression. He wrote of spending his teenage years going to "hops" at the Kings Arms and described Berkhamsted's “slow-moving painted barges and remote gypsy children" in his novels.
