Tonight's rush hour will be hit by severe delays and cancellations due to a major problem with overhead power cables near Berkhamsted.

Trains between London Euston and Northampton were suspended for several hours this afternoon due to the line problems.

Service was resumed at around 5pm, but London Midland reports that trains may still be delayed or run with fewer carriages than normal.

As a result, evening peak ticket restrictions will not be applied today, and London Midland tickets are accepted on the following alternative routes:

* London Marylebone - Birmingham Snow Hill: Chiltern Railways

* London Marylebone - Wendover - Aylesbury: Chiltern Railways

* London St Pancras - Wellingborough: East Midlands Trains

* Euston / Euston Square - St Pancras / Marylebone: London Underground
