Telephone lines out of action

I expect by now that an awful lot of telephone lines are still not working in the Hemel Area.
This is OK - up to a point, but I have an elderly relative who relies on the telephone.
He managed (without knowing quite how) to telephone me on his mobile phone (emergency use!) last night at about 11:45, but that was it s the battery promptly ran out.
He got hold of me this morning and to Hemel I trotted. His phone and line is with Talk-Talk. BT don't talk to Talk Talk customers. Talk Talk customer service is out of this world (on the moon by the sound of it).
Phone was dead with no dial tone or anything. Back home I come to report his phone out of action to BT.
BT just say it's Talk Talk, get onto them.
If you don't use BT for your phone line, my I suggest you ask your supplier what to do if your phone doesn't work. It will be a real eye opener!!
A lot of searching and ringing high price telephone numbers, I discovered there is a fault on the BT network.
Just why can't BT say there is a possible fault in the area. At least you know.
I then had to drive over to Hemel again to reassure a 80+ person who lives on his own, that it's a BT fault.
If you lose your electricity, even if you pay EON or Npower, EDF do at least have a recorded message saying they do/do not have a network problem.
There I feel better now!
Just remember, buying cheaper may cause all sorts of problems.

Apparently it's back working.
Let's all hope that the emergency services were not hit too badly.
