Zombies take over Berkhamsted

Don't be alarmed if Berkhamsted seems a little less lively than normal next month.

It may appear that the High Street has been taken over by the soulless, lifeless, ghoulish undead - but it's all in the name of charity.

Berkhamsted Zombie Walk, which takes place on February 27, is inviting residents to parade through the town in a "slowly, arms raised, undeadly" fashion.

Zombies will gather at 1pm in the park next to Berkhamsted Sportspace, before starting their stumble at the traffic lights in Gossoms End and finishing at Tesco.

The event is organised by Ciara Murphy to raise money for FareShare, a national charity working to relieve food poverty.

Whether you're taking part or not, donations can be made at the Berkhamsted Zombie Walk page on JustGiving.

But if the thought of zombies taking over the town gives you goosebumps, you may be relieved to know that organiser Ciara has laid down the following Zombie Rules of Conduct:

1. Use the "haunted house" rule in that you are not to touch any living people (ie people not taking part on the zombie walk - would you appreciate a flesh-hungry zombie grabbing at you whilst you're out shopping?).

2. Do not attempt to scare anyone who is not a willing participant. If anyone shows signs that they're not comfortable, turn and shamble in the opposite direction. Avoid confrontations!

3. Stay on the pavement unless crossing the street. When crossing, it's OK to "break character" and cross quickly.

4. No littering, destruction of property, or any other illegal activity. Please show the utmost respect. If this turns out to be something we'd like to repeat then we don't want to ruin it! Let's put on a good show.

5. Please do not attempt to push your way into any business if you are not welcome.

6. Have fun!
