We really did get who we deserved

I popped into the Town Council Transport and Environment Committee meeting last night to find out just how meetings appear to be so short and ask why we seem to have 4 organisations trying to improve the Canal and Riverside environment - all of which have Town and/or Borough Council involvement.
It quickly became evident that getting involved was not an item on the agenda in any shape or form. Even though they had 7 days notice, it seems that not one councillor had even been to look at the locations to be discussed - Hilltop Road, Footpath 27, crossing in Kings Road, railings in Lower Kings Road to mention just a few.
The system is not to put forward ideas or suggestions but to ask for more information and put off making any kind of decision. They didn't seem to be aware that the Water Lane toilets are to be refurbished, Berkhamsted School wouldn't pay for a bridge between the old girls school and the new prep school in Dr Commons Road so that County had to install a second crossing within 100 yards of the Charles Street junction one. County spent a lot of money over the past 10 years installing bollards, narrowing the road and removing parking spaces for the Berkhamsted School - nuffin for the Kings Road/Charles Street crossing - and they wonder why nobody notices this more important one. Not to worry, County will be asked for suggestions - even Cllr Stevens came up with a good suggestion - which was totally ignored.
I won't confuse you with the parking exhibition to be held in the Civic Centre (it might be the Town Hall as that is what was said at the time!) on 22/23 June just in case you are interested.

They make the Citizens Association (wonderful organisation - more info on berko.org.uk/bca) look positively proactive.
