  Just in case anyone was wondering - the High Street is shut between the Kings Road traffic lights and Castle Street because there is a hole in the road. Looks like collapse of a previously dug hole (it's clearly not a pothole, just for a change)

• New Road now 'safe'

  My spies tell me that the new passing places have been installed in New Road making it much more safe - just like the top of Ravens Lane was/is with parking allowed just by a busy juction with the High Street. Why can't they just enforce the simple law that says the public highway should not be obstructed and parking only allowed in marked parking bays. Afterall, it isn't rocket science, or is it?

  My avid reader will recall my suggestion to resolve the towns parking problem after the town council decided to spend a lot of time and effort trying to find out what residents would like. Naturally, any decision was put off until after the election and one can suppose that as the same political grouping is still in place (names withheld to protect the innocent) the same decision will be taken (don't expect a lot!). My first suggestion...

  Trains to and from London Euston were delayed this afternoon after a vehicle hit a railway bridge in Berkhamsted. Speed restrictions were put in place on the line at around midday while the damage caused by the accident was assessed. But the bridge was judged to be safe and a normal service has resumed in time for the Friday night rush hour. For live travel information check London Midland's website.

  I'm afraid I've been out again to the great metropolis. You all will recall the problems that Arriva had with their buses that 'dipped' at the front to make it easier for the disabled and others to gain access (don't you?). Naturally, Hemel has the answer. They are raising the kerbs by bus stops to reduce the distance that you have to climb to get in a bus. Two questions: Why Hemel? Why not railway platforms?
