Jagged edges to road cushions?

Last week I spotted tyre shreading jagged corners to the 'bumps' in Bridgewater road.

On Monday I had to go down Windmill Road in Hemel Hempstead which also has 'bumps' (what is it with these people!!? and believe me, don't complain too much as they are awful!

Yesterday I went along Bridgewater Road again and some of the 'corners' had been patched (not all, that that appears to be the 'system' judging by Bourne End)

Bridgewater Road is a prime example of how not to do road repairs, the council knows the situation perfectly well, because they send cowboys to fill in the potholes every 3 months, and sure enough a week later you notice that they are starting to wear again. If they relaid a larger section of the road, and used higher quality material, then we may all get a smooth journey for a while. Also, the vast majority occur on and around the speed bumps - just get rid of them, the road is congested enough as it is!

Just spotted in some publication or the other that the covers in London Road are causing problems. The gentleman concerned lives in Hall Park, so he must remember that all the covers were marked for 'lifting' some 5 years ago. The marks wore off and thus were gently forgotten. I expect the Bourne End ones will go the same way. Don't worry though, our very own County Councillor is on the case between sitting on both the Borough and Town Councils as well as County, so now he has remembered maybe, just maybe, the marks will be re-sprayed just in time for the 2012/2013 budget.

It's Dave's Big Society, John - we ARE the new highway inspectors.... On a bike you say ? that'll cost a risk assessment, and Elf' 'n Safety will tell you that such a work method is too dangerous on account of all the potholes....

This may come as a shock, but there used to be things called 'highway inspectors' who use to patrol the county by bike (best way to spot defects, believe me!). I used to know one. It was also the custom for the police to report defects - due to the high numbers, this was abandoned, can't think why!

One of the problems is locating road damage in the first place. HCC cannot be expected to patrol the many thousands of road miles in the county, in an endless search and repair cycle. Concerned road users should use the fault reporting avenue available to the general public (those who have access to a PC) The web site... http://tinyurl.com/pjf and follow the links to highway faults, there are currently 5 categories to chose from.As in so many aspects of life, one has to be persistent and sometimes chase up people, to get jobs done properly.
